interested in learning guitar?....I feel like giving out a similar speech again.
I'd like to help to get you started. I've had alot of trouble teaching in the past because many get the wrong impression about learning an instrument but I'm sure I can help in any way possible if you wish to learn.
I know alot of people want to learn and they would say that they do, I just hope the commitment is there. Cause really, I'm not going to teach you how to do everything. It's just me telling you what you need to know and what you need to do. Practice. This isn't like school where you must be there to learn.
Everyone has said to me they wanted to learn a certain instrument. If you really do, get the instrument and set up a time with me. Sorry but I'm limited to Saxophone, Viola, Piano, possibly Bass, and Guitar. That's all I can help you with. But if you just want to learn how to Read Notes and understand Music Theory. I understand it enough to help you out.
I like to believe everyone has the potential to do anything...come on, a guitar is just a piece of wood with strings on it. you can handle that, right?
So my point here is. If you want to learn, I can get you started. The rest is up to you. I'm a nobody, I can't magically make you better. I learned from no one but myself and that is who you should be confident in, yourself. Not me and my ability to teach.
There's a moral lesson in everything.
Once my group lessons start to begin....I think I will be posting up chords and songs here for all to see what we have been learning. I hope you will join us too. Take care and don't be afraid to ask questions about how to play piano, guitar, or anything. I will try my best.

First song that I will be teaching is the first song that first got me and Matt started.
It'd help to understand all these notations but I will better explain later on, considering that I also have students now.
This is a typical chord diagram of a song that you would search for, with included lyrics. Look for explanations in parenthesise. This is assuming your guitar is "in tune"....since each string has to be tuned to an according note in order to function properly.
EADGBe, these are order of notes that a guitar generally has. E being that thickest string from the left facing the guitar, and so forth. Notice the last small e is the last tiny steel string, which is the same note. If you knew what each note sounded like, you would turn the knobs of the guitar to get as close to that note as possible. These are the necessities to learn. If you were to learn with me, I'd be able to better show you an example but for now, just explaining what I must.
"In The Secret" by Sonicflood.
G: 3 2 0 0 3 3 Cadd9: 0 3 2 0 3 3 D/F#: 2 0 0 2 3 2 Em7: 0 2 2 0 3 3
(numbers lists directions on how to play the chords. chords are notes all held at the sametime. for this, imagine facing a guitar standing straight while the numbers represent each fret that needs to be held down to make the sound of that specific chord. frets are those square patterns. zero represents nothing held down on that particular string. there are always six digit numbers cause guitars have six strings relatively. so once you get good at memorizing those combinations, you begin. I think this song is well known enough to not need the actual song to listen to which might be different)
intro: G D C Em7 D C
(what chord to play is the Letter above the lyrics, they're not matched up with when to play cause this dang bulletin board won't allow me to space it. learning rythm and how to strum is a whole practice within itself.) G C In the secret in the quiet place Em7 D C In the stillness You are there G C In the secret in the quiet hour I wait Only for You Em7 D C Cause I want to know You more
chorus: G D I want to know You Em7 C I want to hear Your voice G D C I want to know You more G D I want to touch You Em7 C I want to see Your face G D C I want to know You more
G C I am reaching for the highgest goal Em7 D C That I might receive the prize G C Pressing onward pushing every hinderance aside Outta my way Em7 D C Cause I want to know You more

Had second lesson yesterday after two weeks. You girls need to practice and rememorize those chords. It's been two weeks, more than enough time. You should not be waiting for me to teach you what I already did. I know it's easy and that's not to brag. Just watch your fingers, press as hard as you can, and take the pain.
Next song is "We Fall Down".....but we can't move forward since the previous four chords have not been memorized. But here it is anyway.
First step to take, take out the guitar. Hold it in your favored position and make sure the strings are all according to what note they should sound. Be it a tuner or piano, you have to tune the guitar or else you can't move forward to the song. Call someone for help or something.
now after it's tuned and ready, you're all set to look at the directions.
We Fall Down
(These are a whole new set of chords to learn. One should practice holding each chord and once you remember it without looking, should practice going from one chord to another until you're fluent.)
E - 022100 B - 024400 C# -042200 A2 -002200
(remember, the chords above the words are not matched up to when they need to be changed because this forum bulletin doesn't allow larged spacing. but recall that between chords if there is no indication, the previous chord should still be being played. For example the first chord transition. If you play E to begin the song you need to continuously play E until you reach the time to switch to B.)
E We fall down B C# We lay our crowns A2 B At the feet of Jesus E The greatness of B C# His mercy and love A2 B At the feet of Jesus
chorus (notice that B is still being played until it goes to the word "Holy" which then becomes the chord A2)
A2 E B We Cry Holy, Holy, Holy A2 E B We Cry Holy, Holy, Holy A2 E B We Cry Holy, Holy, Holy E Is the Lamb
(Notice that typically you end a song in the same Chord, the first chord usually provides the player with information.)
For the time being, it isn't as much important to strum correctly or play the chord absolutely perfect, as long as you switch your fingers and place it in the right position and can do so quickly. Then after doing that, it is time to play it right and begin to learn how to strum. I can't go into strumming until everyone does what is required beforehand.
SO PRACTICE!
If you tell me "I got it" when I ask if you know what you're doing, you better make sure you can prove it instead of trying to move the lesson forward. I want everyone to be on par. If you know what that means.
